Fort Sumner 14-year-old dies in accident

An accident Friday has claimed the life of a Fort Sumner teenager.

Colten Gunn, 14, died at the scene of the accident at approximately 3:50 p.m. in the Fort Sumner Valley when an all-terrain vehicle he was driving struck the rear of a vehicle at an intersection, according to Juan Chavez, deputy medical investigator for De Baca County.

Gunn, a sophomore at Fort Sumner High, participated in football, basketball and track, along with 4-H and Future Farmers of America.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Fort Sumner High School Gymnasium.
