My Turn: Planking for stiffs

By Lonnie Berry

As long as I can remember, there have been fads. Some of them have been really popular, some really odd, and some the subject of songs that outlived the fads they celebrated.

Many years ago, streaking was a popular fad. It was so popular that there was a song written about it.

I’ve never been a streaker; my fads have always included clothes. But I will admit that some of the clothes I have worn in the past have been considered a fad.

I did have a few polyester suits — in brown, red and, of course, baby blue. And I remember wearing bell bottoms with a 2-inch cuff to my high school prom.

I have heard a lot lately about planking. There are pictures on the Internet, and many discussions about doing it. I decided to find out about it.

It seems that you lay like a plank, between two points. It might be two chairs, or maybe across a desk. I thought I might give it a try. I laid down, and waited.

I’m still not sure if I planked, since I’m not sure how long you have to be there for it to be official.

Just to be safe, I had better dig out my old bell bottoms.
