I got to enjoy the Roosevelt County Fair for the first time this week both personally and professionally. It was fun being able to ride the ferris wheel, tease the Portales firefighters at their display trailer and eat a good burger.
But I think the biggest highlight for me was covering the Pioneer Days event Thursday morning. There were a lot of fascinating and pleasant people in attendance and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing their stories of growing up in Roosevelt County. If any of the younger generation think they can’t learn anything interesting from their seniors, I’d say think again.
One of the last events for the fair this weekend is the arena cross at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Special Events Center. I can vouch for the fact that arena and moto cross are always worth watching.
Also, this weekend is another improv show at the Lyceum Theatre, so go enjoy free comedy at 7 p.m. Saturday. And don’t forget the Under the Stars of New Mexico event coming up Sept. 3 in Fort Sumner. Tickets are $50 and information can be found by calling 575-355-7575.
