I had a good time watching my nephew jump around on the various bounce houses on the Cannon Air Force Base flight line Saturday during the base’s open house event.
No matter what age someone is, I think they always get a kick out of exploring the insides of airplanes. The event was also a really nice way for the local communities to connect with military personnel.
Another military event is happening this Saturday at the base housing in Portales. The Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce is holding an appreciation day for military personnel, so those of you who are military, go check it out, especially if you have children, because there will be face painting and more.
More events, which are open to the public at large, are happening in Portales this weekend, such as the first Fifth Fridays and the annual Tas No Mas trash cleanup.
Fifth Fridays will begin at 5 p.m. Friday and several businesses on the square will have snacks and/or entertainment to offer.
The trash clean up begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and those participating will meet at the Memorial Building. If you care to join later, just look for the cleanup crews along U.S. 70.
