Friday morning briefing: Last call, help for college and a big protest

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Friday briefing.

Last call

United Way of Eastern New Mexico needs cardboard tubes for its Zenith Leadership project.

It’s the last chance to donate because they must be delivered by 4 p.m. Monday in Portales or 3 p.m. Tuesday in Clovis.

Can’t deliver? Call United Way and they will arrange to pick the tubes up: 769-2103.

Help for college

For parents and students, there’s a free informational session on college financial aid from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Clovis High School.

The school promises lots of tips on navigating the sometimes confusing process of filling out applications as well as leads on scholarships and grants.

For information, contact Counselor Cristy Hill at 769-4350, ext. 1016.

Today in history

On this day in 1967, in Washington, D.C. nearly 100,000 people gather to protest the American war effort in Vietnam.

More than 50,000 of the protesters marched to the Pentagon to ask for an end to the conflict.
