Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce announces the upcoming deadline for girls 5 to 10 years old to enter the 2011 Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest.
The chamber is also calling for entries from businesses, individuals and organizations for the Lighted Christmas Parade.
As part of Portales’ yearly holiday tradition, the Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest raises money for the white Christmas lights that are on display throughout town and on the courthouse. The contest runs from Nov.15 through Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. with an official pre-parade Coronation Ceremony taking place at the historic Yam Theatre on Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.
The Christmas Jubilee and Lighted Christmas Parade will be Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m., starting at the Portales Recreation Center and ending downtown.
The contestant that raises the most money through donations collected by her sponsor and through additional fundraising efforts will be crowned Little Miss Merry Christmas with all runners-up receiving the title of Princess.
All contestants must be registered by Nov. 15 and attend an information meeting at the chamber of commerce at 6 p.m. on Nov. 15. Photos of the contestants will be taken for use by the Portales News-Tribune. Previous winners of the Little Miss Merry Christmas are ineligible to re-enter the contest.
There is no entry fee for the parade but registration is required. Entry forms and detailed information for both the contest and the parade can be picked up at the chamber or call 356-8541 and the forms will be e-mailed or faxed to you.
