My turn: Library sale offers books for change

I am a shameless promoter of the Portales Public Library. It is my home away from home, especially for the better part of this week before Thanksgiving when we self-confessed Friends of the Library hold our annual used book sale.

You have to really love books (doesn’t everyone?) to spend as many back-breaking hours as our volunteers do each year supporting our largest fundraiser. We started with an empty room, but by the time we open our doors at 5 p.m. today, we’ll have toted more boxes than we can count, and sorted and stacked thousands upon thousands of books.

What’s in it for you? A quarter will buy you a paperback, and two of them will buy you a hardback from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 8 am. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Big spenders can invest in a bag this evening for $5 and fill it with their choice of books. Bargain hunters will want to be back at 10 a.m. Saturday when we practically give away the leftovers: a buck a bag until 1 p.m. when we close it down for another year.

Pocket change can buy you a winter’s worth of books, and support our wonderful library. Happy reading!
