Samplings of recent calls made to Portales law enforcement, according to police reports:

Jan. 14

  • At 8:35 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a Stripes convenience store. A store clerk told the officer he saw a customer put a bottle of Smirnoff vodka down his pants. When the officer asked the suspect why he had put the bottle in his pants, the man replied “just to get it.” The bottle was valued at $12.92 with tax. The man was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

Jan. 15

  • At 4:34 a.m., an officer responded to West 18th Street concerning a domestic dispute. A woman told the officer she got into an argument with her husband. She said he had been drinking and she suspected him of cheating on her.
    When her husband went to sleep, she went through his phone and found he had been talking to a female she said he had previously cheated with.
    The woman said she woke her husband to confront him. She said they began to argue and he walked towards her quickly with his fist balled and raised in the air as if he was going to hit her.She said he has hit her in the past and she was afraid he was going to again. She said she placed him in an arm bar when he came towards her. She said they began to struggle, then she called the police. Her husband left at that time but returned just before officers arrived.
    The man appeared intoxicated and told officers his wife had accused him of cheating and they had argued but he did not go into detail.
    Officers discovered he had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court. He was taken into custody.
