Press release: Portales business owner arrested in drug raid

Portales, NM, January 24, 2012: Region 5 Drug Task Force Agents seize $51,000 worth of Cocaine in a Buy/Bust operation at local business.

Agents from the Region 5 Drug Task Force, comprised of officers from the Clovis and Portales Police departments, the Curry and Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Offices, and the New Mexico State Police conducted a two month investigation into the trafficking of narcotics in the Clovis/Portales area. Early last week Region Agent s were able to infiltrate the trafficking and distribution network at Victor’s Tire Shop in Portales, NM.

Agents obtained multiple recordings of tire shop owner Victor Olguin brokering deals to traffic pounds of Cocaine in Eastern New Mexico. Agents later developed information on a suspect vehicle which was observed transporting the Cocaine to the business. Once at the shop, the driver, identified as Jose Pena, hand delivered over a pound of Cocaine to an undercover Task Force associate while under the surveillance Task Force Agents.

Multiple subjects were detained at the scene while agents concluded their investigation. One subject, later identified as Jose Ornelas, was arrested at the scene for concealing identity. He was also found to be in possession of 4.2 ounces of Cocaine and charged additionally with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Victor Olguin and Jose Pina were arrested and both were charged with Trafficking a controlled substance and Conspiracy. Bond for Olguin and Pina was set at $100,000 cash for each while the bond for Jose Ornelas was set at $51,000.
