Monday morning briefing: Help for fire victims and a slight chance of snow

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Monday briefing.

Fire victims

Donations are needed for 12 families left homeless by a recent fire at Clovis Apartments.

Money is most needed and cash or checks can be mailed or dropped off at United Way of Eastern New Mexico, 1200 N. Thornton St., Suite G, P.O. Box 806, Clovis, 88102.

Contact United Way for directions on other donations such as food, furniture and household items.

No clothing donations are needed.

Books for babies

There’s a Books and Babies Lapsit 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Portales Public Library.

“Guess How Much I Love You,” will be read.

Kitchen tip

Here’s a way to get the mashed potatoes done early and out of the way: Prepare your mashed potatoes an hour or two before serving the meal and store them in the slow cooker on low heat.

It’s a fact

Saturday mail delivery in Canada was eliminated by Canada Post on Feb. 1, 1969.
