PHS doubles team wins in first round

ALBUQUERQUE — Senior Kim Spotswood and junior Sabrina Montoya won their first-round doubles match on Wednesday in the Class 1A-3A state tournament at the Jerry Cline Tennis Complex.

Spotswood and Montoya, seeded sixth, defeated the Taos Tandem of Reid-Forrester in the opening round. No scores of the match were available at press time.

The Lady Rams' duo will face third-seeded Urrutia-Gomez of Las Vegas Robertson at 8 a.m. today in the quarterfinals. Semifinals are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and the third-place and championship matches for 4 p.m. today.

PHS sophomore Emily Walker, seeded eighth in singles, played Hope Christian's Melissa Rosenthal on Tuesday night. No result was available at press time.

Meantime, the Lady Rams earned an at-large berth in the state team competition, scheduled to begin on Friday. The Lady Rams face St. Michael's in a 9 a.m. dual.
