A 24-year-old Portales man who police said left the scene of a motorcycle accident that seriously injured his passenger turned himself in Tuesday afternoon, according to a Portales Police Department press release.
Daniel Aranda Jr. is charged with causing great bodily harm by vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm, among other charges.
According to the press release, Aranda's 27-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries to her head and arms during the accident Sept. 23 at the intersection of 16th Street and Avenue I.
Police say Aranda left the accident scene on foot.
Sgt. Kane Wyatt with the PPD said the woman has been released from the hospital and is cooperating with the investigation.
Aranda is being charged because he fled the scene prior to police arriving and failed to render aid or call for medical help for his passenger, according to the press release.
Aranda is being held in the Roosevelt County Detention Center on a $20,000 cash bond.
