My Turn – High school bands did great at competition

Congratulations to the Portales High School and Clovis High School bands for a job well done last weekend at the Zia Marching Band Fiesta competition in Albuquerque.

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the event with some friends and I was extremely proud of our local high school bands and the performance they gave.

Portales received second place in their division while Clovis received first in theirs and received the award for Best Visual Effect. Clovis also made it to the finals competition.

All of the awards given to both high schools were well deserved. They marched in beautiful patterns and played each note perfectly. Although, my day at the University of New Mexico football stadium proved to be a long one, I am very glad I went and thoroughly enjoyed seeing our local high school bands in action, doing what they do best.

This upcoming weekend will be bring more musical entertainment with our very talented Eastern New Mexico University choir. Their annual Fall Choral Concert is 7 p.m. Saturday at Buchanan Hall in the ENMU Music Building. It will be my first time to attend the event and I caught a glimpse of the practice, so I am excited to attend.
