ENMU ROUNDUP: Hounds take victory over Buffs

CANYON, Texas — Junior midfielders Eishu Kanemitsu and Cantu Palombo scored less than four minutes apart late in the first half and freshman goalkeeper Fredrik Widfeldt made it stand up with six saves as Eastern New Mexico University upended 18th-ranked West Texas A&M 2-1 on Friday in Lone Star Confrence men's soccer.

The Greyhounds (10-5-1, 1-2-1 LSC) avenged an earlier 3-0 loss to the Buffaloes (11-3-2, 2-3) in Portales. The two scores were ENMU's only shots on goal in the match.

ENMU, now 5-11-1 all-time against the Buffs, won for the second time over WT at Canyon. The Hounds wrap up LSC and regular-season play next weekend with matches at No. 7 Incarnate Word on Friday and at Midwestern State on Sunday.

Women's soccer — West Texas A&M's Lindsey McHorse scored off a deflected pass in the fourth minute and the Lady Buffs held on for a 1-0 Lone Star Conference women's soccer win over the Zias on Friday at the ENMU pitch, taking the LSC title in the regular-season finale for both teams.

The Lady Buffs (11-6-1, 10-4 LSC) came into Friday tied with Incarnate Word, but the Cardinals (9-7, 9-5) were beaten 2-0 at Abilene Christian.

Volleyball — Katie Covell had 12 kills and 15 digs and Tarleton State (20-5, 13-2 LSC) swept ENMU 25-12, 25-14, 25-11 on Friday night at Stephenville, Texas.

The Zias (6-18, 1-13), who play at ninth-ranked Angelo State today, got a double-double from sophomore setter Kennedi Catano (19 assists, 10 digs).
