Portales native Scot Stinnett, publisher of the De Baca County News and Clovis Livestock News, was inducted into the New Mexico Press Association Hall of Fame on Saturday night.
Stinnett, a 1974 Portales High School graduate, is a former NMPA officer and president. NMPA officials credit Stinnett with helping launch the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government and he remains aggressive in ensuring government transparency, officials said.
Stinnett and his wife Lisa have published the Fort Sumner newspaper since 1992.
He joins his grandfather, M.M. Stinnett, in the press association's hall of fame. The senior Stinnett was inducted in 1981. Other area journalists in the NMPA hall include Portales' Gordon Greaves, and Clovis' Charles Fischer and Bill Southard.
