Students of the Month

The following students were chosen for Student of the Month for September:

  • 12th grade — Paige Hartman
  • 11th grade — Jennifer Salomon
  • 10th grade — Catalina Arana
  • Ninth grade — Mern Shepherd III.

These students were treated to pizza and soda pop in the main office with PHS Principal Melvin Nusser and one of their friends. They were also presented with a special letter and a Student of the Month certificate.

ASVAB scheduled

Junior students will take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on Nov. 7 in the Portales High School cafeteria. The exam will last all morning but conclude before lunch. The test is given at no charge to the students and is open to any senior students wishing to take the exam as well. Students and or parents can come by the PHS Counseling and Guidance Office for more information or call at 356-7015.

Essay competition

Portales High School honors English students are delving into the U.S. Constitution and gaining a new understanding of our country's government process as they prepare essays for the VFW Voice of Democracy contest. Winners will be announced in November.
