My turn: Song stuck in my head

I've had the song "Down By the River to Pray" stuck in my head for a week now, compliments of the Eastern New Mexico University choir.

The song was one of its finishing numbers Saturday night at their fall performance at the university Music Building. I've played the Alison Krauss version twice on YouTube since then after finding myself singing it in my office throughout the day.

The university choir did an amazing job Saturday, harmonizing together as beautifully as any national choir would. It was well worth going and I was pretty pleased to be able to attend for the first time, having wanted to see the choir's fall performance for awhile now.

When he conducts a choir, I always find the passion and excitement of professor of music Jason Paulk as inspiring and beautiful as the choir's performance. I think there are few who would ever doubt that Paulk has a strong passion for what he does.

In other event news, some fun events for kids this weekend are the annual fishing clinic at Oasis State Park and a princess party at the Clovis Civic Center, both on Saturday.

For adults, don't forget about the "Death by Chocolate" book signing for local author Darynda Jones.
