Local Brief: Cannon change of command — July 11

Col. Tony Bauernfeind will take command of Cannon Air Force Base during a special change of command ceremony 9 a.m. July 23 on the flightline.

Bauernfeind is replacing Brig. Gen. Buck Elton, whose next assignment is director of plans, programs, requirements and assessments at Air Force Special Operations Command headquarters at Hurlburt Field, Fla.

According to a press release from Cannon public affairs, Bauernfeind has commanded Air Force special operations forces at the squadron and group level, and he has commanded joint special operations forces during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

Bauernfeind has flown more than 3,400 hours as an aircraft commander, instructor pilot and evaluator pilot in the MC-130E and MC-130H aircraft. He most recently served as the 1st Special Operations Group commander at Hurlburt Field, Fla.
