Nancy Siler represents Wilton Brands, and she’s going to show how to create oriental designs for cakes using fondant, a gum paste mold and buttercream icing. When you work with fondant, it makes cake decorating very professional looking.
Kris Wrede is an aromatic alchemist and natural perfumer, and her business is Kismet Potions. Wrede will explain what essential oils and base oils are and tell why they are ideal for various skin types. She’ll show how to use them for a beautiful glowing appearance. She lives in Albuquerque.
Information on furniture repairs, making spritz cookies and crackers, and some easy storage solutions will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday(All times are Mountain.)
Lynn Hack-Gerhart is the spokesperson for QRB Industries in Houston. She will show several different ways to repair damaged finishes on furniture as well as make some other furniture repairs.
Nancy Siler will show how to prepare spritz cookies and savory crackers using a cookie press that is usually used only during the holiday season. She’s from Woodridge, Ill. and works at Wilton.
Deborah Durham serves as the spokesperson for Velcro USA, and she’s going to show how to make some creative storage units using Velcro and a variety of other household items. Durham lives in Santa Fe.
BBQ Spritz Crackers
- 10 Tbsp. butter, softened
- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. chili powder
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp. onion powder
Preheat oven to 375° F. In mixer bowl cream butter, barbecue sauce and egg yolk until fluffy. Mix in flour, salt, chili powder, cayenne, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix until just combined. Shape dough into small logs and place in Cookie Master Plus. Using desired disk, press shapes onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes or until a light golden brown. Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet on rack. Remove from cookie sheet. Serve warm or at room temperature. Makes about 2 dozen crackers.
Pineapple Coconut Spritz Cookies
- 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup shredded coconut, finely chopped
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp. pineapple extract
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
reheat oven to 375° F. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar with electric mixer. Beat in egg, coconut, vanilla and pineapple extract. Mix flour and baking powder; gradually add to creamed mixture. Mix just until combined. Place dough in Cookie MasterTM Plus and with desired disk, press cookies onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly brown-ed. Cool on rack 2 minutes and remove from cookie sheet. Continue to cool on rack. Makes about 6-7 dozen cookies.
