A neighbor came walking by one evening while I was pulling weeds. “You’ll never win”, she said in jest. “Oh, yes I will,” was my reply.
Diligence. That’s the name of the game in just about all endeavors. I found the perfect quote for my thoughts today. “Luck is a very good word if you put a ‘P’ before it.” What fantastic double meaning for a weed plucking story!
We rarely hear the word these days. You might hear the verb, meaning to pull something out by the roots. But that fun adjective, plucky, is going by the wayside.
I like it. And I would love to have it said of me. Plucky — showing courage and determination, especially in the face of danger, difficulty, or superior odds.
And how about those synonyms? Brave, courageous, gutsy, fearless, bold, audacious, spirited, daring, determined. What a list!
So, I wish you luck while you pluck the weeds of life. But more than that, I hope you’ll be plucky the next time you’re faced with a challenge.
