ARLINGTON, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico University football team overcame a slow start, scoring eight touchdowns in the final three quarters on Friday to blitz Sul Ross State 55-24 in the Lone Star Conference Football Festival at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Junior running back Jordan Wells rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown and sophomore running back Andrew Lopez added 81 yards and three scores for the Greyhounds (1-1), who trailed 12-0 early in the second quarter before Wells broke off a 64-yard scoring run.
Lopez went over from 2 and 21 yards out to make it 20-12 at halftime, then added a 6-yard TD run on the first possession of the second half.
The Hounds finished with 477 total yards to 385 for the NCAA Division III Lobos (0-2). Defensive back Benjamin Langford returned one of his two fumble recoveries 39 yards for a third-quarter TD and led the Hounds with nine total tackles, while senior linebacker Call Barnard of Melrose had eight tackles, including five solos and two quarterback sacks totaling 23 yards, and junior linebacker Seth Bailey of Texico was in on seven tackles.
