CANYON, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University’s women finished third while the men were fourth in Saturday’s Buffalo Stampede cross country meet, hosted by West Texas A&M.
The Zias finished with 75 team points to trail Midwestern State (54) and Dallas Baptist (63) in the eight-school event. In men’s competition, the Greyhounds had 96 points to trail New Mexico Highlands (28), Tarleton State (63) and Dallas Baptist (78).
ENMU’s women had a pair of top-10 finishers in the six-kilometer women’s race in senior Alesha Jones, eighth in 23 minutes, 24.63 seconds, and sophomore Amber Saiz, ninth in 23:30.15. Kelsey Bruce of Dallas Baptist was the winner in 22:10.56.
Other performances for the Zias included Sabrina Huelga, 17th in 23:51.51; Bayleigh Baker, 19th in 23:57.05; Brittany Buchanan, 22nd in 24:08.56; Beth Blind, 37th in 24:47.71, and Sarah Bertram, 74th in 27:32.49.
In the 8K men’s race, junior Justin Samaniego was sixth for ENMU in 26:29.40. The winner was Highland’s Alonzo Chavez, who ran 26:05.70.
Other finishes for the Hounds included Mason Thomas, 14th in 27:10.30; Chase Beausoleil, 15th in 27:12.03; Zach Walling, 27th in 28:15.75; Scott Wesselink, 40th in 29:01.74, and Barron Barber, 50th in 30:05.29.
