The win was the first this season in three tries for the Lady Rockets (10-4) against PHS (8-2).

“They played well tonight,” PHS coach Ruth Chavez said. “They were aggressive and we did not block well. We had a lot of hitting errors and a lot of blocking errors.”

Senior outside hitters Kristen Wagner and Savannah Vincent had 14 and 13 kills, respectively, for the Lady Rams. Another senior outside hitter, Simone Laurenz, finished with nine kills, 30 digs and seven aces, while senior setter Pari Cox collected 24 assists.

“It was a battle,” Chavez said. “We just struggled hitting the ball, and struggled blocking their hitters.”

The Lady Rams return to action in the eight-team Peyton Chavez Invitational this weekend at the RAC. Single-round-robin pool play is slated for all day Friday and Saturday morning, with teams then seeded into one of two four-team brackets.
