WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Junior forward Maurisa Jones scored with just under 12 minutes left and Eastern New Mexico University played Midwestern State to a 1-1 draw in Lone Star Conference women’s soccer on Friday.
Sophomore goalkeeper Xan Ortiz recorded a career-high 10 saves to help keep the Zias (4-4-3, 1-1-2 LSC) in the contest. Meantime, Jones got the equalizer when she tapped in a loose ball in the center of the box for her fifth goal of the season.
MSU (7-3-1, 2-1-1) outshot the Zias on goal 12-4, but could not finish the deal as the Mustangs had a three-match winning streak snapped. ENMU remained unbeaten against MSU since the start of last season, having swept both matches from the Mustangs in 2012.
Midwestern broke through in the 51st minute as senior Emily Saville tallied her first goal of the season after taking a through pass from Tatyanny Griffiths just inside the box.
The Zias return to action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. (MDT) start at Angelo State.
