SAN ANGELO, Texas — Sophomore midfielder Sierra Anderson scored her second match-winning overtime goal of the weekend on Sunday, lifting Angelo State past Eastern New Mexico University 1-0 in a Lone Star Commerce women’s soccer match.
The win was the seventh in eight outings for the conference-leading Rambelles (8-3-1, 4-1-0 LSC), who are coached by Travis McCorkle, who began the ENMU women’s program in 2003 and coached it for five seasons before moving on to ASU. McCorkle also started the ENMU men’s program in 2004.
Anderson’s team-leading fifth goal came in the first minute of the second overtime. She won Friday’s contest against West Texas A&M 2-1 with an overtime tally.
Angelo had an 18-7 advantage in overall shots over the Zias (4-5-3, 1-2-2), but only a 7-6 margin in shots on goals.
Senior Dani Edwards earned her fifth shutout of the season in goal for Angelo, making six saves, while sophomore Xan Ortiz had seven saves for the Zias.
ENMU played its sixth double-overtime match of the season, and was coming off its second double-OT clash of the weekend. On Friday, the Zias played Midwestern State to a 1-1 tie on Friday at Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Zias return to action on Friday with a 5 p.m. (MDT) start against West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.
