Eastern New Mexico University’s volleyball team saw its losing streak reach six on Tuesday night, but the Zias certainly didn’t go down without a fight.

Ninth-ranked West Texas A&M finally pulled away for good in the fourth set to hand ENMU a 25-19, 26-24, 22-25, 25-14 Lone Star Conference setback at Greyhound Arena.

WT (17-3, 7-0 LSC) stretched its winning streak to 11 matches, and has won 14 in a row against the Zias dating back to 2004. But it didn’t come easily.

Senior middle blocker Laura Iwuchukwu had 14 kills and eight total blocks (one solo) for the Lady Buffs, who faced game point in the second set against the Zias and then trailed for much of the third before ENMU earned its first game win over WT since Oct. 2, 2007, on a bad set by the Lady Buffs’ Lee Golden on game point.

The Zias (4-13, 2-6) hung around for a while in the fourth set before the Lady Buffs went on a 13-3 run to break open a one-point contest.

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Frye had a solid outing with a match-high 17 kills and seven block assists. Freshman outside hitter Courtney Lawson posted a double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs.
