Freshman outside hitter Lauren Frye posted a season-best 20 kills and Eastern New Mexico University’s volleyball team completed its first season sweep of Cameron since 1994 with a 25-12, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15 Lone Star Conference victory over the Aggies at Greyhound Arena.
The win was also the first at home in six matches this season for the Zias (5-13, 3-6 LSC), and ended a 14-match home losing streak dating to a 3-2 win over Cameron on Sept. 25, 2012.
Frye and teammate Agatha Gibbons each had five total blocks for ENMU, while freshman outside hitter Courtney Lawson posted her third consecutive double-double and ninth of the season with 16 kills and 11 digs.
Senior libero Hayley Couch had a match-high 24 digs and junior setter Kennedy Catano collected a season-high 50 assists.
For Cameron, Kelle Carver had 17 kills and Kat Evans finished with 13.
The Zias broke open the first set late, scoring 13 of the final 14 points after the Aggies (5-14, 0-8) had closed to within 12-11. Cameron pulled even in the second set, leading all the way even though the Zias managed to get within a point on several occasions.
In the third set, Cameron led 11-10 before the Zias responded with a 7-0 run that included two kills each from Frye and Lawson. A 10-0 run, sparked by three kills and two blocks from Fort Sumner senior middle blocker Bree Lucero, broke open the fourth set, and the Zias scored the final six points to close it out.
The Zias will seek another season sweep when they host Midwestern State in a 2 p.m. LSC clash today at Greyhound Arena.
