LUBBOCK — Led by junior Keely Weger, the Eastern New Mexico University women’s rodeo team captured first place in the Texas Tech rodeo over the weekend.
Weger, from Mead, Okla., was the women’s all-around winner in the event as the Zias scored 320 points to 290 for host and runnerup Texas Tech.
The Zias have won three consecutive rodeos, including a four-way share of the top spot the previous week in the Frank Phillips College rodeo at Borger, Texas.
Weger won breakaway roping competition and finished fifth in goat-tying to account for 235 points. She split first and second in the short go and was second in the first go in breakway.
Senior Mackie Savedra was fifth in goat tying, winning the first go, while senior TiAda Gray was fifth in barrel racing, including third in the short go. Freshman Lindsey Adcock was eighth in goat tying.
ENMU’s men finished in a three-way tie for 11th with 20 points. Tarleton State dominated men’s competition with 500 points to 275 for Odessa College.
ENMU squads compete for the final time in the fall season this weekend, traveling to Alpine, Texas, for the Sul Ross State rodeo.
