COMMERCE, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University’s bid for a Lone Star Conference women’s soccer berth came up short on Sunday as the Zias lost to Texas A&M-Commerce 2-0 in the regular-season finale for both teams.

ENMU needed a win over the Lions and a tie between West Texas A&M and Texas Woman’s at Denton, Texas, to claim the fourth and final berth in the six-team league. WT earned the No. 4 spot with a 2-1 win over the Pioneers.

The Lions (10-5-1, 5-4-1 LSC), who finished third behind co-champions Angelo State and Midwestern State, broke the scoreless tie in the 27thy minute when junior defender Callie Annett put in a rebound shot for her fourth goal of the sesason.

In the 58th minute, the Lions scored again when freshman defender Vicky Back headed the ball in from the box.

Commerce outshot the Zias on goal 9-4. Freshman Callie Ballard recorded her seventh shutout of the season, while junior Fabienne Wilson made seven saves for the Zias.
