Road construction update — Nov. 10

Area road construction and closure information for this week:


US 70/1st and 2nd Street Portales, NM Pavement Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Project

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and Constructors, Inc. would like notify the public that construction work will be transitioning on eastbound Second Street. Currently traffic is in the inside or north lane from Avenue C to Boston Avenue. Traffic was moved to the outside or south lane. With this move, traffic is able to access Avenue A, Main Street, and Abilene off of Second Street. Access to the courthouse square and businesses on Avenue A and Main Street will be available off of First Street. Please expect some congestion in this area.

City of Clovis

Llano Estacado Boulevard closed between Norris Street and Humphrey Road, starting Monday

Beginning Monday, Llano Estacado Boulevard will be closed between Norris Street and Humphrey Road for road improvements. Improvements include resurfacing Llano Estacado Boulevard between Norris Street and Humphrey Road and the addition of acceleration and deceleration lanes for the new Raintree Apartments. Work is being conducted by K. Barnett & Sons and will last approximately four weeks, weather permitting. Local residences impacted by this work may be accessed via Humphrey Road.

Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Roadway Construction Project

This project is scheduled to last until May 2014. The project consists of sewer improvements, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, through lanes, two way left turn lane, bike lanes and sidewalks.

The first phase of the project will be the installation of a sewer line underneath the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 21st Street. North/South traffic on MLK will be closed from the main PRMC entrance to approximately 300’ south of the intersection. Primary access to the hospital during all construction phases of the project will be on 21st Street.

Curry County

Signal Energy is working on Curry Road 34 just West of NM 209 to Curry Road Q. Please be aware of the congestion, workers and heavy equipment in that area.

Curry County Road Department will be installing culverts at the intersection of Curry Road 10 and Curry Road C, when workers are present try to seek an alternate route.

Curry County Road Department is still shredding bar ditches and pot hole patching around the County.
