Last time out: The Wildcats beat Manzano 55-40 on Saturday at home. The Rams won on Tuesday at Friona 59-47.
Of note: The Wildcats, hard-hit by graduation after reaching the Class 5A state finals last season, ended a two-game losing streak with their win over Manzano. … Portales has won two in a row after a 1-2 start. … The lone returning starter for the Wildcats from last season, 5-10 senior G Kamal Cass, has not played since suffering a knee injury late in the year in football. He could be back tonight, but whenever he returns he’s expected to see limited minutes to help his re-acclimation to the sport. … Top players for Clovis so far have been 5-11 senior G Willie McCray and 6-1 senior F Traivon Sopila. McCray (22 ppg) is the only player averaging double figures. … Senior C Zach Campbell (15.6 ppg) leads the Rams in scoring, followed by senior G Isaiah Alvarado (9.9), who scored a career-best 21 with five 3-pointers at Friona.

Last meeting: December 2012, the Lady Rams traveled to Las Vegas for a pair of games in less than 24 hours, beating Robertson 45-36 and losing to WLV 45-43.
Last time out: Portales lost to defending Class 5A state runnerup Mayfield 59-46 in the finals of the Moriarty Invitational on Saturday. Robertson beat West Las Vegas 70-51 for fifth place in the Capital City Invitational on Saturday at Santa Fe, and the Lady Cardinals were slated to play on Thursday night at Bernalillo.
Of note: Portales is playing its first home games of the young season, and won’t play again at the RAC until hosting the Portales Shoot Out Jan. 10. 11. … These will be the first non-tournament games of the season for the Lady Rams. They won the Denver City Shoot Out two weekends ago to open the season. … Sophomore F Kambrey Blakey leads the Lady Rams in scoring (15.7 ppg), while sophomore G Sheraya Cox is next (12.5). Both have been in double figures in five games.
