Portales City Council
Other actions taken by the Portales City Council at Tuesday’s meeting:
• Councilors passed a resolution determining four residential structures dangerous and a menace to public health.
The resolution allows councilors to move forward and enforce the city ordinances set in place, which require the owner of the properties on West 15th Lane and avenues K, C and A to remedy the health hazards or else the city will.
The resolution allows the city’s building inspector to serve the owner a 30-day notice before the city can take action.
• The council approved an award of bid for gravel to K. Barnett and Sons, Inc. in the amount of $34.55 per ton.
Based on the city’s need, a minimum of 800 tons and up to 1,600 tons of the gravel is expected to be used. The fiscal impact can range from $27,640 to $55,280 in budgeted funds, according to Public Works Director John DeSha.
• Mayor Pro-Tem Ronald Jackson presented Portales Library Children’s Librarian Tawna Luscombe with the Employee of the Quarter Award.
• The council passed an ordinance to establish an Affordable Housing Program for Portales.
