Portales beats Moriarty on road

MORIARTY — Facing a team they drubbed by 34 points earlier in the season, the Portales Lady Rams almost forgot to get off the bus on Saturday.

Their troubles lasted only a quarter, though.

PHS outscored Moriarty 30-13 over the middle two periods to erase a four-point deficit and went on to a 54-42 victory over the Lady Pintos.

Sophomore Kambrey Blakey poured in a season-best 27 points and added 11 rebounds (10 on the offensive glass) as the Lady Rams (16-2), coming off a win at home over Texico on Friday night, improved to 16-2 for the season.

“We did not come to play at all,” PHS coach Wade Fraze said. “They shot the ball well (early), but in the second quarter we really picked it up.”

In the end, Portales won relatively comfortably, although Fraze wasn’t totally pleased with the way his squad finished the contest.

“It wasn’t our best game, but you’re not going to have your best game every night,” Fraze said.

Alyssa Adams led the Lady Pintos (5-11) with nine points, all on 3-pointers.
