Jones sets new school mark for Zias

ALBUQUERQUE — Junior Alesha Jones highlighted Eastern New Mexico University’s performance in the University of New Mexico’s Collegiate Classic indoor track meet on Saturday, setting a school indoor record in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 16.94 seconds, good for fourth place.

Jones finished behind Cassandra Smith of Washington (2:14.04), Clovis High grad Caitlin Waters of Texas Tech (2:14.35) and Western State’s Justin Podvin (2:16.63) in the event.

For the men, Samoei claimed fourth place in the one-mile run with a time of 4:16.03, about 3 1/2 seconds behind winner Derrick Williams. ENMU junior Kaspars Briska placed seventh in the event with a time of time of 4:21.95.

ENMU returns to action next weekend in Lubbock for Texas Tech’s Red Raider Open.
