A second Republican announced Friday he will seek the party’s nomination for Curry County Sheriff in the June primary election.
Sam Elliston, a 34-year law enforcement veteran, said he intends to file his candidacy Tuesday at the Curry County Clerk’s office.
Undersheriff Wesley Waller has already announced he intends to run for sheriff.
Elliston said he retired after 26 years from the Clovis Police Department as a lieutenant. He said he also spent eight years as a Curry County Sheriff’s deputy.
“I have the experience and dedication to make a positive difference in our community,” Elliston said.
Elliston is a criminal justice graduate of Eastern New Mexico University.
