BERNALILLO — Corona put four players in double figures on Friday and pulled away in the second half for a 52-38 win over Grady in the Class 1A girls state semifinals at Bernaillo High School.
The Lady Cardinals (19-5) will take on three-time defending champion Elida, which rolled over Carrizozo in the other semifinal, in the title game at 1:30 p.m. today at The Pit in Albuquerque. It is the third straight year the teams have met in the title game.
Corey Eagan had four 3-pointers and 15 points for Corona, which led 21-18 at the half but outscored the Lady Bronchos 18-9 in the third quarter to take charge. Harleigh Erramouste added 14 points, Sage Bell 12 and Hannah Gage 10 for the Lady Cardinals.
Egan hit 3-pointers on three consecutive trips during the third quarter to help Corona pull away.
Eighth-grader Jordyn Stowe took games honors with 16 points for the Lady Bronchos (12-13), but Grady had no one else with more than five points.
Next year, Class B will become Class 1A, and several of the teams currently in 1A will stay there, Grady coach P.J. Bryant said, noting her team will be paired with San Jon, Mosquero, Clovis Christian, Elida and Floyd.
Still, with only two players graduating, Bryant said her team has something to build on.
“I think we’ll be in a good place next year.” she said.
