Two people have been cited for violating the county burn ordinance when they caused a grass fire Friday near Arch by using a cutting torch in the middle of a soil bank, according to the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office.
No damage or injuries were reported in the fire, according to Portales Fire Department staff.
Officials say it took 24 people and 14 trucks to control the 150-acre fire, which was put out around 3:15 p.m.
No arrests were made. The Arch Fire Department will watch the area for any flair-ups, according to officials.
