Rams turn in consistent effort at Roswell

ROSWELL — Portales High’s boys put together a consistent round on Tuesday in the Spring Classic golf tournament at Roswell.

The Rams followed up Monday’s 351 team score at the New Mexico Military golf course with a 349 tally on Tuesday at Spring River golf course for a two-day total of 700, placing them 13th in a 16-team field.

Freshman Andrew Underbrink shot 43-40 — 83 and led the Rams with a two-day total of 167. Junior Ty Bergman was next at 175 after Tuesday’s 44-44 — 88.

All five Rams players shot within four strokes of their scores on Monday.

Las Cruces High took team honors at 608, nine strokes ahead of Hobbs. The Bulldawgs’ Davis Chung took individual honors at 71-68 — 139, four under par for the two-day event.

Deming ran away with the girls team championship at 618 posting a 50-shot margin over Socorro. Deming’s Darian Zachek was the individual medalist at 71-65 — 136, seven under par.

PHS finished 13th on the girls side at 826, shooting a 408 team score. Individual Lady Rams results were not available Tuesday night.
PHS squads return to action next Wednesday in the Black/Murphy Invitational at Lovington.
