For the second time in three seasons, Eastern New Mexico University senior Isaiah Semoei finished eighth in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division II outdoor track championship.
Samoei will run again Saturday night at the national outdoor meet in Allendale, Michigan, as he will compete in the 5,000-meter run.
Samoei, a native of Eldoret, Kenya, finished with a time of 30 minutes and 1.63 seconds in the 10,000-meter, more than a minute faster than the time he posted in the 2012 championship, where he also placed eighth.
The finish sealed All-American honors for the third time since he transferred from Iowa Western Community College.
Sophomore Johnnie Guy of Southern Indiana won the event by more than 10 seconds, posting a time of 29:33.31.
Samoei is ranked eighth going into the 5,000, with a career-best time of 14:04.92.
Samoei won six track and two cross country titles in Lone Star Conference competition, including this year’s title in the 5,000. He holds the school records in both the 10,000 (29:18.38) and 5,000.
