Six ENMU players earn preseason All-American honors

Six members of the 2014 Eastern New Mexico University football squad have garnered preseason All-America status from USA College Football Division II All-American.

Three of the players were first-team selections — running back Jordan Wells of Austin, Texas, and defensive backs Kevin Reaves and Darrelyn McCloud, both from Albuquerque.

Wide receiver Jacob Johnson of Idalou, Texas, and outside linebacker Benjamin Pedro-Langford of Pago Pago, American Samoa, were second-team choices, while quarterback Jeremy Buurma of Las Cruces was named to the honorable mention list.

Wells
Year: Senior
Hometown: Austin, Texas
Of note: Earned first-team All-Lone Star Conference honors, averaging just over 65 yards rushing per game. … Rushed for more than 100 yards twice and had two games with at least 80 yards receiving.

Reaves
Year: Senior
Hometown: Albuquerque
Of note: First-team All-LSC selection and second-team Don Hansen All-Super Region 4 honoree. … Had nine pass breakups, including three in a win over nationally-ranked Midwestern State, and had two pass interceptions while finishing fourth in the league in punt return average. … Had a career-high 12 tackles in ENMU’s Wagon Wheel win over nationally-ranked West Texas A&M.

McCloud
Year: Senior
Hometown: Albuquerque
Of note: Ranked second in the LSC in passes defended per game (1.3), and finished the season with 28 tackles. … Returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown against New Mexico Highlands and also picked off passes against Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Johnson
Year: Senior
Hometown: Idalou, Texas

Buurma
Year: Junior
Hometown: Las Cruces
Of note: Earned All-LSC honorable mention while ranking fourth in the league in total offense with 184 yards rushing and 1,569 passing. … Posted 11 TD passes, including at least one in eight of the 10 games, and had three interceptions. … Threw for 146 yards and three scores in the ENMU’s season-ending win at Texas A&M-Commerce, clinching a share of the school’s first LSC football title since 1991.
