Junior Preview Day Scheduled At ENMU

Eastern New Mexico University will host Junior Preview Day 10 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Saturday. ENMU is inviting Portales High School Juniors to meet faculty and current ENMU students, learn more about academic offerings, see the residence halls, tour the campus, and answer any questions students may have.  Students can register to attend online at: www.enmu.udu/jrpreviewday or call ENMU Enrollment Services at 562-2178.                  

New Mexico Standards Based Assessment Scheduled

Portales High School will be administering the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment (NMSBA) Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27.  Only Junior students will be testing.  Juniors will be testing in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, & Social Studies Freshman, Sophomore, & Senior students will follow an abbreviated schedule that week.

PHS FFA Alert

Portales High School FFA Program concluded all fund-raising activities in November 2008 of this fall semester.  The public should be suspicious of anyone offering to sell meat or fruit on behalf of the Portales High School FFA Program as it is a scam.  The public is encouraged to report any such suspicious activity to local law enforcement. 

College Entrance Exams

Seniors interested in attending a 4-year university after graduation must take a college entrance exam, either the ACT or the SAT. The next ACT will be given on June 13.

Deadline to register is May 8. The next SAT will be given on May 2. The deadline to register is March 31. Seniors should also be deciding which college(s) they intend on applying to as well as obtaining scholarship information.

Scholarships

Available scholarships are posted on the Portales Schools website in the schools section under Portales High School, Counselors Corner. Students can also visit the counseling and guidance office for more information about college entrance exams, college admissions, and scholarships. Thomas Tafoya meets with students whose last names begin with A-L and Pam Nelson-Ray meets with students whose last names begin with M-Z.
