Pillows part of upcoming program

Information on making designer pillows, “appli-felting” and new cleaning products will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Pat de Santis will show how to make different versions of designer pillows for about a third of the cost of purchased pillows. She’s with Wrights in West Warren, Mass.

Sewing expert Barbara Crawford of Crawford Designs will show a technique called “appli-felting” to change one fabric color into multiple colors in order to create an appliqued dimensional design. She lives in Gladstone, Mo.

Cleaning expert Laura Dellutri is going to show us some of her favorite items for cleaning and for food preparation. Her company is Healthy Housekeeper Inc., and she’s from Overland Park, Kan.

Information on carpet selection, preparing a “pantry meal,” and making a one-dish Mexican soup will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday.

Since carpet is a major investmaent, Kathryn Sellers says it’s important to choose the right carpet based on traffic patterns, family likes and activities within the home. Sellers is with The Carpet and Rug Institute in Dalton, Ga.

When you’re desperate for a quick dinner, Vicki Gagliano of Lawry’s Foods Inc. suggests a “pantry meal.”  She’s from Monrovia, Calif.

Cookbook author Janel Franklin will demonstrate a one-dish Mexican soup that will wake up your taste buds! Her company is Jan-Su Publications, and she lives in Tahoka, Texas.

Chili Blanco

1/2 pound diced turkey breast or ground turkey

1tablespoon oil

1/2 cup diced celery

1/2 cup fresh or canned Anaheim chili peppers, chopped

1/2 cup onions, chopped

2 to 3 cups water

2 cans (14 ounces each) small white beans, drained

1 cup seeded, diced tomatoes

1 cup seeded, diced zucchini

1/2 teaspoon each salt, ground cumin

1/8 teaspoon each black pepper, cayenne

Brown turkey breast or turkey in oil. Drain well and add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes or until flavors are blended. May need to add more water as it cools. Serve with condiments, fresh grape salsa and tortillas.

(If unable to find Anaheim Chili peppers, any mild green pepper will work.)
