Rachel Robertson had 13 kills and four block assists Saturday night as Texas A&M-Commerce rolled to a 25-16, 25-21, 25-16 Lone Star Conference volleyball victory over Eastern New Mexico University at Greyhound Arena.
The Zias (4-15, 1-10 LSC) missed a chance to escape the conference cellar against the Lions (6-11, 2-8). Commerce scored first in all three games and trailed only briefly four times in the second set — all by just a point.
Commerce opened a 4-0 lead in the first game as Breanna Snyder, who finished with 10 kills, got two of them on the first and third points. The Lions continued to build on their margin and the lead was never less than six points after a kill by Jordan Neal made it 10-2.
The second set was close most of the way. The Zias led for the last time at 10-9 on junior outside hitter Amber Durand’s kill, and the Lions took the lead for good on Durand’s attack error which made it 14-13.
ENMU pulled even twice, the latter at 2-2 on a kill by senior Kristen Beck, in the third set. The Lions scored the next two points, but still led only 15-12 before Ezon Oditi’s kill kicked off a 10-4 run to end the match.
Durand had 13 kills to lead the Zias, while junior libero Dallas Russell posted a match-high 15 digs.
The Zias will finish a four-match homestand on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. non-league encounter against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
