Mesa Club students compete at state event

Portales High’s Mesa Club competed at the state meet, held April 17 at West Mesa High School in Albuquerque.

The web design contest (Microsoft bliink competition) was won by Russell Van Dam and William Van Dam. Our Mesa Robotics team of Brandon Carter and the Van Dams finished second and our Wind Energy Challenge team of Alejandro Aguilar and Matthew Streseman was third.

Congratulations to all the competitors and Mesa mentor Jack Willis.

March students of the month

The following students were chosen for “Student of the Month” for the month of March:

• Junior, William Van Dam

• Sophomore, Russell Van Dam

• Freshman, Lane Carrasco.

These students were treated to pizza and soda in the main office along with PHS Principal Melvin Nusser and one of their friends.

They were also presented with a special letter and certificate.

ENMU recruiter to visit PHS

Stephanie McClary of Eastern New Mexico University will be on campus Wednesday to talk with PHS seniors interested in attending the school for the fall 2010 semester.

Students interested in speaking with McClary may visit with her in the library starting at 9 a.m.
