A Portales man faces felony drug charges after police say they found methamphetamine and marijuana in his vehicle.
Police said a Portales detective and Roosevelt County agents, all part of the Region 5 Narcotics Unit, received a tip Tuesday about a Portales resident trafficking drugs, according to a press release from the Portales Police Department.
Police said they tracked the vehicle involved and a Portales police officer stopped it.
Police said agents obtained a search warrant and found 4.4 grams of marijuana and 7.8 grams of methamphetamine in the vehicle.
Police say the driver, Jimmie Joe Baca, 23, of Portales was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, and possession of marijuana. He was jailed in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
A passenger in the carwas arrested on three outstanding warrants for traffic violations, said Portales Police Deputy Chief Lonnie Berry.
There was no proof the passenger knew about the drugs in the car, Berry said, noting he was jailed on a combined bond of $826 from the three warrants.
Both men remained in the Roosevelt County Detention Center as of late Tuesday afternoon.
