Student gets writing award
After receiving a regional Gold Key in the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for 2010, Dora eighth-grader Katie Bickley’s science fiction/fantasy story, “Lira: A Retelling of Rumpelstiltskin,” was reviewed by professionals in the literary arts, and she has been awarded a National Gold Medal. Of more than 165,000 submissions, only 1,400 received gold or silver national honors. The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers will host the awards ceremony for national honor recipients and their teachers at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June.
