Texico and Fort Sumner Municipal School districts were awarded money from the Public School Capital Outlay Council Thursday, according to a news release.
Texico will get $3.8 million in state funds to renovate its schools and Fort Sumner will receive $5.6 million in state funds to renovate the middle and elementary schools.
The state awarded a total of $131 million to 24 projects in 15 school districts.
The state provides funding for public schools by issuing bonds on severance tax revenue. Under the process, all districts are eligible for state funds, but voters must approve property taxes to raise a matching amount, the release said.
