Colleges sign agreement
Eastern New Mexico University and Pima Community College in Arizona have entered an articulation agreement.
PCC students who earn an associate degree, apply to a related degree program at ENMU and have a GPA of at least 2.0 are guaranteed admission to the university in Portales.
ENMU is offering nine bachelor’s degrees under the partnership, all available online.
Also, Pima undergraduate students enrolled at ENMU can pay in-state tuition and fees if they take six credit hours or less. They can take more hours at Pima to keep their full federal financial aid.
Excavation under way
For the first time since the 1960s, an abandoned site in Blackwater Draw is being actively excavated by Eastern New Mexico University anthropology students and faculty.
The group has been working for several weeks.
Its an opportunity to uncover 13,000-year-old mammoth bones.
David Kilby, assistant professor of anthropology, began teaching last fall and was particularly interested in becoming a part of ENMU’s faculty for the opportunity to excavate this site.
“This is one of the few sites in North America that shows humans were on this continent over 13,000 years ago,” Kilby said.
The particular section being excavated was previously examined by an anonymous professor from the University of Paris.
“When he abandoned the site, the professor took all the data with him, so everything he did is unpublished,” Kilby said.
The Blackwater Draw Museum and dig site are open year-round and volunteers are allowed on-site to help excavate at certain times.
