Alva and Mary Helen Carter of Portales celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008.

The couple was married on Oct. 4, 1958, in Portales. He is a retired Portales High School administrator  and serves on the Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents. She is a retired Portales schools teacher. 

They have two children .and four grandchildren.
