Band rated excellent On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Portales High School band traveled and competed against set criteria at the Southeast New Mexico Music Educators Association District Marching Festival in Artesia. At the festival the band received a rating of excellent. The PHS band has over 80 students marching and of the 80, 43 are freshman. The PHS marching band will continue to prepare for the Zia Marching Fiesta in Albuquerque on Oct. 27. ACT, SAT tests upcoming Seniors interested in attending a four-year university after graduation must take a college entrance exam, either the ACT or the SAT. The next ACT will be given on Dec. 8. Deadline to register is Nov. 2. The next SAT will be given on Dec. 1. Deadline to register is Oct. 30. Seniors should also be applying to the colleges of their choice this month as well as obtaining scholarship information. Comcast offers scholarship The Comcast Cable Foundation is offering the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program to interested high school seniors planning to attend a college or university in fall 2008. Students can obtain more information about this scholarship by visiting the counseling and guidance office. Other valuable information is also posted in the Counselors Corner. Talk to the counselors for more information about college entrance exams, college admissions, and scholarships.
